Music Overload: February 4, 2018

New Music. New Tour Dates. New Videos. New Interviews. Let’s get to it.

A huge highlight from 2017, Princess Nokia’s show at Bottom Lounge was probably the most inclusive, diverse, and borderline violently lit concerts I’ve ever attended. With that said I wouldn’t have had it any other way, because we were all there in support of women, people of color, queer youth, and our love for music.

Well I’m excited to say Miss Destiny herself will be back in just weeks! On March 24th she returns to Chicago to play at one of my top 2 venues – the Metro. If you’re lucky, you can catch tickets here, but you better hurry up before it sells out! In the meantime, check out videos from that epic night on my YouTube channel and read reviews from her debut album 1992!

Lolawolf are back with an unexpected (but much needed) dreamy new song, “Baby I’m Dyin'”. Check out the cozy, intimate video for the single and also marvel at Zoë Kravitz’ skin along with me. Enjoy!

ATL’s dark wave duchess herself, Abra, shared new music from the vault after followers asked for new tunes.

it’s rough but i was tired of sitting on it and yall been asking for new music and who am i to deny my lil babies

The song is a sassy, demanding, and appropriately titled slow burner called “B.R.A.T.” In the song she boasts “B-R-A-T- you gonna give it to me…” I’m hoping we get an LP or a tour this year, but for now this is pretty damn good.

Considering we recently explored Tinashe’s return to the scene with her new single “No Drama”, I figured this would be interested to check out. The song is already getting a lot of attention and the reason why is it’s so catchy!

I can’t cop the coupe, don’t do shit for two
All black truck, hangin’ out the roof

She looks adorable, her singing voice is perfect, and I love her shades! Watch Tinashe team up with Genius and break down the lyrics in the hit song, which features Migos’ Offset.

Last night, I was lucky enough to catch a rare Chicago set from New Zealand’s Kimbra – which is an opportunity that doesn’t come around too often. The opening act Arc Iris totally killed it, Kimbra’s skin literally looks like porcelain, and she played tons of new material from her upcoming album Primal Heart, which is out on April 20th.

Although I thought that I wanted to hear all of her past songs, I actually ended up obsessing over every new track she performed and I think that this album will be a huge win for her. The set included the classic “Settle Down”, the newsletter-released “Hi Def Distance Romance”, and her latest single “Human” which you can watch below! Kiwi Kween!!

P.S. – Thanks for being patient with my posts lately; I started a new job in 2018 and have been getting used to a new schedule and learning a lot of new information. I’ll hopefully get back to my usual frequency in the next month or so, but you can stay caught up on Instagram and Facebook in between!
